A THOUGHTFUL FIRST SESSION

Getting started,
step by step.

Take a moment to understand how the pieces fit together. A little preparation makes every next step feel clearer.

01

Find the official desktop app

Start at Ledger’s official website and navigate to the Ledger Live download page. Choose the version that matches your operating system, then follow the installer instructions on screen. Downloading directly from the official source helps you avoid lookalike applications and tampered installers. If you already use Ledger Live, check for updates from within the application so you can benefit from the latest improvements and security fixes.

02

Choose your setup path

When you open the app, you’ll be guided through options for setting up a new Ledger device or connecting one you already own. Read each prompt carefully and make sure your hardware wallet is genuine and sourced through an authorized channel. Ledger Live is the companion interface; your hardware wallet is where private keys are secured. The app can help you view and manage accounts, but it cannot replace the physical confirmation required by your device.

03

Secure your recovery phrase offline

Your recovery phrase is the master backup for your wallet. Write it down exactly as your device displays it and keep it somewhere private, durable, and offline. Never photograph it, save it in cloud storage, type it into a website, or share it with anyone—including someone claiming to be support. Ledger will never ask you to enter your recovery phrase into Ledger Live or send it to a person. Anyone who gets that phrase may gain control of your assets.

04

Add accounts and learn the overview

Once your device is ready, use the accounts area to add the networks you want to explore. Your portfolio brings together balances and recent activity, while individual accounts give you a more focused view. Asset prices and displayed values can change, and a portfolio estimate is not a guarantee of future value. Spend time getting familiar with the navigation before you initiate a transaction. Review network names, account details, and fees before confirming anything.

05

Review every action on your device

When you choose to receive or send digital assets, carefully verify the address and network shown on your hardware wallet screen—not only what appears on your computer. Confirm that the details match what you intend. Transactions may be irreversible once broadcast, so start small if you are learning and take your time. Keep Ledger Live and your computer’s operating system up to date, use a screen lock, and be cautious of unsolicited messages, urgent warnings, and links promising rewards.

✳
Pause whenever something feels off.

Close suspicious pop-ups and navigate to official Ledger support by typing its address yourself. Never approve an unexpected request.

YOUR SECURITY CHECKLIST

Stay in control.

Ledger Live is a portfolio companion—not a place to share secret recovery information. Keep your phrase offline, verify actions on your device, and use official channels.
